Abe Shalabi - Senior - P/IF - will be attending University of Illinois at Champaign - hit .577 for the month of May with 3 HR, 16 RBI and 9 runs scored - also recorded 2 saves during this time on the mound
In 12 games in May, Angela hit .615 with 5 doubles, 1 triple, and 5 home runs. She knocked in a 19 RBI and scored 18 runs. Angela has three wins on the mound in May striking out 33 batters. Zedak leads the 20-7 Marist RedHawks in almost every offensive category. She is a sophomore committed to play softball at Northwestern and was recently recognized as the 2017 ESCC Player of the Year.
Jimmy O'Brien, Senior sprinter/Jumper on the Andrew Thunderbolts Boys Track and Field Team, has had a tremendous April. Jimmy has consistently finished in the top three in long jump at all of the seasons outdoor meets as well as recently jumping the IHSA State Qualifying distance of 22 feet 1 inch last weekend at the Downers Grove South Invite. Since then he has already bettered that performance by hitting the 22feet 8inch mark. He displays a team first mentality on the track and is a leader for all future T-Bolts!
Katie is a senior and a co-captain. She is hitting a team high .489 and also leads the team with 3 home runs and has scored a team leading 18 runs. She has also stolen 12 bases and is a terrific defensive center fielder. Katie will continue her softball career next fall at Ball State University.
Tori Clinton has been the top performer for the resurgent Vikings track team. He has scored the most points for the Vikes, leading the team to a 2nd place finish at the ICOPS Invite and a 4th place finish at the Catholic League Championships. Tori will compete at the Illinois Top Times meet in long jump, the 60 m dash, and the 4x200 relay.
She has been in top 2 for all indoor meets in all events, Team Captain, Took top 4 at Indiana Qualifier in the 55 out of 45 athletes, Anchor for sprint relays at Argo, 4 year Varsity Track Runner
Lucas is a Senior Co-Captain on the Stagg Chargers Swim Team. At the 2017 Sectional Swim Meet, Lucas took first in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke, and lead the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay to first place finishes. At next week's State Swim Meet, Lucas is seeded within the top 5 in two events and the top 10 in another. He currently holds 5 varsity records and 5 pool records. Lucas has accepted a scholarship to swim at Michigan State University in the fall."
Finished 7th at the IHSA State Meet on Balance Beam and 10th on Uneven Bars All-State in both events.
He is 29-0 this year and is current ranked #2 in the State at 113 lbs. This month he was selected as Outstanding Wrestler at the Geneseo Bi-State Tournament and where he did not have one point scored against him.
Throughout the girls basketball season, Maeve has been a standout here at Sandburg. She has worked hard each and every day to make her teammates better by leading by example. She comes to practice everyday with a great attitude and an energy that all players feed off. She is 2 year varsity player whose game has continued to get better each and every day. She is currently averaging 6.2 ppg, 9.2 rebounds per game, 2.1 assists per game, 70% from FT line and shooting 55% from behind the three point line. Maeve battled through an injury to start the year but has played well ever since her return. Maeve is also a standout student at Sandburg, earning a 3.9 GPA and all A's and B's in her first semester of her senior year.
Returning two year starter, SWSC all conference player last season. Averaging 17 points and 6 rebounds a game leading Stagg to a 6-2 record to start the season. Hit two free throws to win game vs Lemont last night and scored 17 of his 19 points in 4th quarter and overtime in win over Sandburg last Friday
Rebecca Jiricek earned her season-high scratch series, 595. last week. Her GCAC average is a 175, which is the highest on the team. She has advanced to sectionals the past 2 seasons. Her scratch series is currently the third highest in the league
Levy played a huge role in leading St. Laurence to the football semifinals for the 2nd straight year. He helped the Vikings beat the 5 seed Richards, the 4 seed Crete-Monee and the 1 seed Lemont before falling to the 2 seed Sacred Heart-Griffin in the 6A semis. Levy caught 18 passes for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 4 playoff games.
Nancy has 985 assists, 270 digs, 46 blocks and led our team in aces with 42 for the State Champion Mighty Macs. Our success this season wouldn't have been possible without Nancy distributing the ball and controlling our offense the way she did. She made huge strides from the beginning to the end of the season - she not only set hittable balls, but she dominated in blocking and defense as well.
Gilberto "Gordo" Arreola has led the Vikings to a 13-4-3 record, a Catholic League Championship, and into the Regional Championship game. Since moving to forward from center back at the start of October, Gordo has scored 10 goals and assisted on 2 others in only 5 contests. He scored 4 goals and had 1 assist in a 7-1 win over St. Rita in the IHSA Regional Semifinals. GIlberto has been named IHSSCA All-Sectional and All-Catholic League.
Tennis State Qualifer and Scetion Doubles Champ
Anthony recently finished in the top 10 at two cross country races. At the Reavis invite, Anthony ran16:23 in tough conditions to place 5th in the Varsity race. At the Tinley Park Invite, Anthony ran15:51 to place 6th in a tough field. Over the summer, Anthony compiled more than 500 miles of running to prepare for the season. He has tremendous leadership ability and looks forward to earning a state qualifying time at the end of the season.
Ashley currently placed 5th at the Naperville Invite last week, a highly competitive meet. She placed 6th at the Lyons Invite on September 2 with a PR for the season of 18:15. She won the David Brady invite 2 weeks ago. We are very excited to see how Ashley performs for the remainder of the season, hoping to coach her to her 2nd consecutive state appearance at Detweiller Park in November.
Tommy has been a leader for our Cross-Country team throughout the summer and start to our fall season. He was our top runner placing 19th at last weekend's Plainfield Central Wildcat Invitational. The work ethic that he displays every day at practice is a model that all athletes at Andrew should hope to follow!
Aine is the Mighty Macs Varsity Number 1 player. She shot a career low 38 at Willow Crest Golf Club and has lowered her career scoring average by 5 shots over last season.
Anthony Rios led the Vikings to a 31-9 record and their 1st Sectional Championship since 1993. A 2-year starter at catcher, he was the undisputed leader of the team. Anthony hit .300 and drove in 29 runs for the Vikes. Behind the plate, he led a pitching staff that had a team ERA of 2.40. Anthony was named All-Catholic League and finished 2nd in voting for the MVP of the CCL. He will continue his baseball career at Lewis University.
Evelyn was all conference and qualified for state in 3 relays, the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 where at state she split a 57. The 4x200 placed 7th at the state meet.
Paul Petan is excelling in 2 sports for the Vikings this spring - lacrosse and bass fishing. On the field, Paul is a captain and key midfielder for the Vikings. On senior night, he scored the game-tying and game-winning goals late in the 4th quarter to give STL a come-from-behind win. On the water, Paul qualified for the bass fishing state tournament for the 2nd straight year by winning the Sectional. His boat also won the D230 tournament.
Amy Balich is a senior shortstop who is currently hitting .522 with an on base percentage of .569,slugging percentage .728 with an ops of 1.297. Her fielding percentage .964 with only 3 errors in 25 game. She is a captain and the leader of our team and will be playing at Ohio State next year.
Max Downs is a senior outfielder for Stagg HS. He is currently batting .487 with 3 home runs, 9 doubles and 11 RBI's. During the month of March, Max batted .600 for the first 7 games of the season. Max will attend Parkland College on a baseball scholarship.
Geena is a senior goalie who has 172 saves. She had 12 saves in the macs 10-10 tie vs Fenwick and 10 saves in a Fenwick tournament win 6-5 vs st ignatius the macs are 19-5-1 with geena in the goal
Brett Risley was recently named to the Chicago Catholic League All-Conference team for the 2nd straight year. He is averaging 17.8 points, 2.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals a game while shooting 44% from beyond the arc. Brett has already led the Vikings to their most wins since 2006-07. He has also led the Vikes, the 13 seed, to the semifinals of the Chicago Catholic League Tournament with upset wins over De La Salle (4 seed) and Seton (5 seed).
Tara is a sophomore guard who is the teams leading scorer. Tara scored 21 points vs. Crete Monee in Mcauley's Regional semi final win.
Senior Anthony Thompson led the way in a pivotal conference match-up with Tilden, scoring 32 points in the OT victory. For an encore, Thompson scored 44 points in a win over Chicago Military Academy. The 44 points set a new school record for points in a game.
Kristen is a sophomore bowler and holds the highest varsity average - 156.96. She has been bowling on leagues since she was 7. We look forward to see how she progresses!
Senior Manny Sanchez has led the St. Laurence Bowling team to an undefeated start to the season and the Championship of the Oak Lawn Spartan Invite. He is averaging 215 pins per game, with a high game of 268 and a high series of 735. Manny finished 2nd in the Chicago Catholic League, 1st in the Regional , and 24th in the state last year.

Alex Martinez has quarterbacked the Vikings to their 1st appearance in the semifinals since 1979. In his 3 playoff games, Alex is 35-51 (68.7 completion percentage) for 803 yards with 10 TDs and 0 INTs. He has also carried the ball 26 times for 107 yards and 3 TDs. On the season, Alex has thrown a remarkable 32 TDs to only 2 INTs, with none since week 1. He has set the single-season passing yardage record and shattered the career record. He has also guided the offense to a school-record 566 points on the year (47.2 per game), besting the previous record by over 150 points. While his numbers are tremendous, the adversity that he has overcome is even more amazing. Alex's dad tragically passed away during week 7 of the season. Alex's poise and maturity during this heartbreaking time has been inspirational to all of those around him.
I would like to nominate freshman Eva Kelly who won the Lyons Sectional in Diving. She will compete in the state meet on Friday at New Trier.
Starting Linebacker and Running Back. Has led the Eagles to a 6-2 record. The 3 games in October has tallied 21 Solo Tackles, 7 Assisted tackles, 3 sacks and has rushed for 5 TD's.
Sophomore, Bridget Halleran and senior Grace Turcich, came in 4th place in our sectional, qualifying them for participation in the state tournament.
Scott Nemec has really found a home with the boys XC team. In only his second season, Scott has emerged as one of the top runners on the team and better runners in the area. He finished in the top 25 in several meets and ran a blistering 16:23 at Peoria this past weekend! His work ethic, determination, and leadership have earned him a nomination for AOTM!
Casey shot a career low 9 hole score of 40 on 9/14 and shot a career low 18 hole round of 93 on 9/12. Scoring average has dropped 3 shots since the start of the season. She is also an outstanding leader.
Finding a way to bond immediately with new teammates, foreign exchange student Paul Harmann scored 2 goals and has one assist already in the first two games of the season!
Sara, team captain and senior, led the Lady Bolts to victory in the teams first two matches. Scoring 41 and 38 respectively, Sara is leading the charge of the fast improving squad, shooting birdies and scoring pars!
